WIKA's Support for Realizing IKN as a Smart Forest City
PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) is actively contributing to the transformation of IKN into a Smart Forest City through a tree seeding and distribution program along the IKN KKT Kariangau - Simpang Tempadung Toll Road segment 3B.
In this initiative, WIKA has allocated project area land to function as a nursery capable of nurturing 4,930 tree seedlings comprising 100 species of endemic Javanese trees. These seedlings will be cared for until they are ready to be planted along the IKN toll road.
"Environmental aspects are a primary focus in the development of projects in IKN. Therefore, WIKA is advocating for infrastructure implementation to be accompanied by greening programs, enabling the realization of the Smart Forest City concept from the construction phase," stated Agung Budi Waskito, President Director of WIKA.
As a result of this tree seeding initiative, 90% of the nurtured plants have already been planted on the slopes of the IKN Toll Road Segment 3B spanning 6 kilometers. Various tree species planted include Mahogany, Canarium, Angsana, Pule, Merbau, among others.
The distribution of trees is carried out in two phases to consider land maturity and project development progress in each package. This tree seeding and distribution program is a collaboration involving the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Association of Retired Army Personnel (PPAD), and Construction Companies in IKN.
It is targeted that a total of 41,794 tree seedlings will be distributed across nine infrastructure development project packages in IKN.
Segment 3B of the KKT Kariangau - Simpang Tempadung Toll Road is part of the Toll Road Network supporting IKN in East Kalimantan Province, connecting the Balikpapan City area to Penajam Paser Utara District. Stretching over 7.3 kilometers, this toll road is expected to reduce travel time from Balikpapan to the Core Center of the Capital City (KIPP) of IKN from 2 hours to 45 minutes.
